Highlights
1980s Avon The 1876 Cape Cod Collection Ruby Red Salt & Pepper Shakers
These salt and pepper shakers of the 1876 Cape Cod Collection are reminiscent of early American pressed glass called "Sandwich Glass." It featured lacy, intricate designs, fine background stippling, and exquisite brilliance which reflected the superb craftsmanship of its makers.
Many of the detailed designs for this prized glass were produced by the Boston & Sandwich Glass Works founded on Cape Cod on 1825. Other companies in the region competed, but the popularity of "Sandwich" pieces resulted in the name becoming a generic term for pressed glass.
This unique Avon 1876 Cape Cod Collection was inspired by the classic Roman Rosette pattern. The collection name commemorates both the spirit of 1876 Philadelphia Centennial, the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and, Cape Cod, the area where Sandwich glass originated.
This is a lovely piece with no chips, cracks or breaks. There is slight discoloration of the plastic shaker top holes. This does not come with the original box, but will come in a box suitable for gift giving. Please see photos for details.
