The shelf is made by several pieces of wood attached to be stronger than one piece. They are not only glued, but also there are other pieces of wood used as tongue and groove which are invisible.

I love the shelf..it is put together very well and i love all the colors..my only complaint is that the sizing was in cm instead of inches so alot smaller than i thought. To be clear that was totally my fault for reading the description wrong.
