There are two versions of the shield, the original version and the upgraded version, each manufactured using different processes. The two versions of the shield use the same materials, the main differences are the manufacturing process and diameter.
The diameter of the original version was 23.6 ". The original shield used the stamping process and the principle is to extrude the aluminum alloy plate by using ultra-high pressure. The advantage is that the production is simple and the cost is low, so this is also used by most shield manufacturers. However, the stamping process can only form circular grooves on the shield. According to the design in the movie, the grooves on the shield should have been right-angled. In order to solve this problem, I plan to make an upgraded version of the shield.
The diameter of the upgraded version was 25.6 ". The upgraded version used the Die Casting process, that is, the molten metal is poured into a mold and cooled. This process realizes the right-angle groove on the shield, like as shown in my photo, this will be the perfect shield. However, the cost of the die-casting process will be higher, the production process will be more complicated, and it will take more time to make.
