GARMENT FOUNDATION
Aguyé garments are known for their perfect bust shapes and their smooth, flattering lines.
A key feature of this garment and one main reason why our customers love our clothes is its bust shape and construction. We call it ‘Atomic Bust‘ and it is an engineered and constructed inner corselette, with boning and interlinings, which:
Is totally supportive so you can wear no bra, because it acts like a built-in bra.
Makes it impossible for your dress to slip down, which give you total comfort and movement freedom (as well as removing the need for constantly pulling up your garment).
Has a 50s-true shape. If you’d prefer it to have a more modern, rounded shape though, let us know and we’ll make it to suit your taste.
And it is extremely flattering, as it smoothes your curves and creates beautiful lines. It’ll be you, but better.
By default, this structure goes down to the waist and that’s perfect for most people. If you have a larger cup size, (E cup size or bigger), or if you have a waist measurement of 33″/84cm or larger, though, we recommend that you choose the longer version instead, that goes down to 10cm /4 inches below the waist. You will be more comfortable and it will provide optimum support. We will adapt the amount of boning strips to your particular measurements and shapes. Find more info and add it to your cart here.
You will not need to wear a bra with any of our strapless garments as their built-in corselette structure already acts like a built-in bra. If you’d like to have a bit of extra volume though, you can either wear a padded bra underneath, or you can have push-up pads sewn onto your corselette. If the former, we recommend using an unwired bra so the bra wires and the corselette boning don’t get in each other’s way. If the latter, please add it to your cart here.
HOW IT FITS?
The top part of this garment (bust, underbust and waist) is fitted: not loose, not too tight. This is how it should be to look good and to be comfortable.
On the other hand, the bottom part (skirt or pants) is loose enough (without being too loose) to allow for movement.
SUSTAINABLY PRODUCED, EXPERTLY CRAFTED
It is important to us to create a new fashion consumer culture: a culture in which we care about who made our clothes, under what conditions, what materials were used and how respectful was the process with the enviroment, from farming the crops to make the fabric, up to shipping the garment to the customer. And also, a new culture in which we no longer buy on an impulse, but instead we buy very few garments (very, very few), and garments of high quality standards.
We use on our garments natural materials whether possible, use paper-based materials on our packaging (no plastics there) and work under fair conditions. And we use organic fabrics wherever we find an organic replacement for them.
Each garment we make is designed and handcrafted in our small studio in La Batllòria (Barcelona) exclusively for you when you place your order. So, as we produce upon ordering, we don’t have any stock leftovers, so no one of our garments ever ends up in our landfills. We buy only the materials we need and don’t waste anything.
LIFE SPAN OF YOUR GARMENT
We build our clothing to last. And by that, you can expect yours (if well cared for, of course) to last for many years. We also leave big inlays, so you can have it altered to fit your current body over time.
We believe in garments that last a long time, so that all the effort that went into making it (growing the crop, making the fibers, weaving the fabric, creating the design, making the prototype, drafting your pattern, cutting, making, finishing, packing, shipping and of course, you earning the money to pay for it) both from the earth, our team and every other person involved, pays for it.
Please continue the chain by wearing it for a long time. If a moment arrives when you don’t want to wear it any longer, please consider donating it or selling it. Yes, Aguyé garments in the 50s/mid century line are highly collectable and there’s a second hand market for them.
And if a time arrives when your Aguyé garment is not wearable anymore, we ask you to take the boning, zipper and hook&eye out of it before disposing it. These are the parts that are not recyclable, but everything else is made from natural materials so will descompose in just a few years in a landfill (instead of centuries like synthetic fabrics do), or you can take it to a clothing recycling company, that will use its fibers to make new fabrics. If its boning is made of spiral steel, it is highly and easily recyclable too, please take it to a recycling plant.
Thanks very much!
PAYMENT PLANS
If you want to secure your Aguyé on our production schedule but don’t want to fully pay for it yet, we offer payment plans.
LIMITED EDITIONS
All styles we make (except those on the Permanent Collection and the Men’s slacks) are limited edition, which means we make very few units of every style and colour, and once it is sold out, we will not be making it again, ever. If you can’t add it to your cart it means it sold out already.
