HISTORY:

Gata or as some call it Nazook is the most beloved pastry in Armenia. As history has it, the gata was first linked to the monastery created by St. Gregory of the Illuminator. Rumor has it that Armenian gata is linked to the country's recognition of Christianity as a state religion. The sweet filling inside the gata, known as koritz, became the country's symbol of freedom and liberty. Today gata is served at Armenian weddings as a blessing of good luck and is also given to friends before they travel. Once you take one bite of gata, you will know for yourself, why this pastry is so special among people of Armenia.
