I went through a weird phase in the beginning of 2020 where I became obsessed with painting real life birds with human breasts. It's a marvelous combination of beauty and silliness and I had so much fun with the project. Originally painted by me with acrylics on a 9"x12" white canvas, this listing is for one 5"x7" print of the original Tufted Titmouse bird on 120# SemiGloss Card Stock in Full Color (about 6x the thickness of regular paper) printed by Flower City Print Shop here in Pittsburgh.
10% of each sale will go to the National Audubon Society- The National Audubon Society protects birds and the places they need, today and tomorrow, throughout the Americas using science, advocacy, education, and on-the-ground conservation.
An additional 10% of each sale will go to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation. Their mission statement reads: "We strive to be a credible source for triple negative breast cancer information, a catalyst for science and patient advocacy and a caring community with meaningful services for patients and their families."
On a personal note, when my sister-in-law was diagnosed with stage 2b breast cancer in August 2020 I felt so helpless. However, it just so happened that I had been working on booby birds at the time (quite literally I was painting a black-throated bushtit sculpture when I got the news) and I realized I had a perfect opportunity to create something special for survivors AND raise some money to donate to whatever cause my sister-in-law chose. The Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation was her choice. She sadly lost her battle with cancer on January 16th, 2022 and is terribly missed.
