Hand made, top quality, hardwood chessboard (Chess pieces NOT INCLUDED)
This affordable, basic chessboard is completely handmade, by me, right here in Southern Oregon.
Created from Bazillion Cherry and Maple, or, Black Walnut and Maple
The Brazilian, or "Jatoba", Cherry is grainy, reddish, very hard and very beautiful.
The Black Walnut is, well, very nice, it's Black Walnut.
Each board is hand sanded down to a smoooth as glass finish, then I hand rub in multiple coats of Boiled Linseed Oil, this creates a gorgeous, durable board that will last generations.
IMPORTANT: Black Walnut is not black, it is varying shades of brown and White Maple is not white, it is varying shades of beige. The application of linseed oil, as well as polyurethane, brings out the grain patterns and protects the wood and adds a honey or amber tint to all wood. ALL wood tones, coloration and grain patterns will vary as well as some dimensions.
Contact me if you have any concerns, preferences or special requests.
NOTE: Oil only finish provides a beautiful, natural looking finish to your board. The oil brings out the grain while protecting the wood from moisture absorption, which helps prevent warping.
Oil only finish is very easy to repair should the board suffer damage, simply sand and re oil.
Your board will be thirsty, once or twice a year, as needed, your board will like to be rubbed down with a fresh coat of Boiled Linseed Oil.
This board is available with a Poly finish.
Polyurethane finish, Satin, slight sheen, or Gloss, hard and shinny, will provide extreme protection against damage or spills,
If you'd like a poly finish on your board, find my listing for "Finish Options" and select your option.

Felt pads of the bottom protects your furniture, or,
available with 3/4" tapered, hardwood, felt padded pedestal feet.
I DO NOT make or sell chess pieces.
Selecting pieces can be a very personal thing, some folks even chose to wait until receiving their board, that way, they get a true picture of the coloration of the woods they selected, although, I have not yet heard of anyone being unhappy with their chosen pieces.
Chess pieces range from under $10 a set to over $4,000 .
I got my inexpensive sets on Amazon, both for under $15 each. Amazon, or Etsy are both full of a range of pieces and House of Staunton is the world leader.
Remember, the size of the squares on the board should pair correctly with the size of the pieces, in general, the base of the largest piece should occupy about 75% of the square. 2" square, get a set with a King with a base of 1 1/2".
