This encaustic painting features a silhouette of a tree with a heart nestled inside -- a reminder of the strength that lies within us.

It is comprised of multiple layers of clear and pigmented wax resulting in a sculptural, multi-dimensional work. An image transfer is encased within the wax layers, and pastel and ink were added to render fine details as the layers were added. A custom blend of beeswax and damar resin adds a translucency to give the artwork a glow and depth.

The overall artwork size is 3-1/2" x 3-1/2", and is mounted in an 8" x 8" handmade shadowbox. The shadowbox is painted black with raw, exposed edges, although if you would prefer a gray or white box, please include this in your notes and we will be glad to change it for you. The artwork is signed and dated on back, and is wired and ready for hanging. The base also allows it to sit on a shelf or table without the need for a stand.

What is encaustic?

Encaustic is an art form dating back over 2,000 years. Its technique involves heating a mixture of beeswax, damar resin, and color pigments, and using this molten mixture as the painting medium. The often unpredictable nature of the wax medium offers serendipitous effects, resulting in a one-of-a-kind work of art.
