A Victorian shell cameo set in a hand crafted pendant in 14 karat yellow gold

The pendant features an antique cameo of Artemis or Diana the huntress and moon goddess in an oval shape

She has the crescent moon on her head and the quiver of arrows on her back

She was created by a master carver who showed off their skill by keeping several spots of the outermost and darker shell layer in the design (see her hair and the neckline
detail)

She is hand carved from carnelian shell (Cypraeacassis Rufa) with incredible detail

She is a true antique (over 100 years old) and was purchased unset, roughly 45 years ago at an auction of a woman's extensive collection of antique jewelry

The setting has a simply elegant, filigree and ball design

It was hand crafted roughly 30 years ago when a dear friend visited Italy and took my treasure with him to be professionally set by the true cameo experts

The 14 karat yellow gold pendant has the cameo set with 25 prongs and epoxy

The pendant measures 1.89 inches in length and 1.30 inches in width (48.07mm, 33.04mm)

There is a hidden bail that will accommodate chains of up to approximately 5.5mm x 4.5mm

The setting has no fineness stamp but it is guaranteed to be 14 karat yellow gold

Weighs 11.6 grams

The carved shell cameo is in excellent antique condition with no breaks, chips, cracks, flakes, striations, or repairs.

The hand crafted, estate gold setting has 25 prongs and is in very good condition with no issues to note.

This is a piece from my personal collection. I hate to let it go, but my dog tore a tendon in his ankle and the surgery and rehab is pricey. Of course, my rescue and his health and happiness are priceless.
