My CA native bird paintings are each created to celebrate a friend's completion of 33 sit-spots in a row. Sit-spots = give full attention to the more-than-human world for at least 20min, ideally in the same spot, daily. Such practices help us notice patterns in nature and build relationships across species. Through this core routine I have learned that bird friends are everywhere, connecting me to all of life; and that I am never alone. My buddy Natalie asked for a Kingfisher. She tells a story of how one commanded attention with their grand rattle & convinced her to put her phone down, step out'the'car, and get out on a walk already!! Natalie wrote her beloved Kingfisher a jazzy song which delights everyone who hears it. Here's to the unplugged rockstar in all of us ~ just look at that sassy crest! This is a female Belted Kingfisher, distinguished by a rusty orange breast band.
I work mainly in watercolor pencil, with other media such as graphite, black ink, white gel pen, and of course a lot of LOVE
