Given the handmade and hand finished nature of the products we craft, variations and imperfections in the wood should be expected and celebrated! Just as every tree is unique, so too is every piece of furniture that is handcrafted and hand finished just for you. Every piece of furniture will have a unique grain pattern and slight color variation as a result of the grain pattern.

Our furniture is built from solid wood and is designed to be durable and livable. Our furniture is sealed with a polyurethane finish. Families love the durability and longevity of our furniture.

For daily care, we recommend cleaning with water or any cleaning product intended for wood surfaces. Avoid abrasive cleaners and harsh chemicals. If you have any care questions, please don’t hesitate to call or message us.

To save all of our customers money, all shipping prices are for curbside delivery only. This means you will need to bring the furniture inside your home, uncrate it, and assemble it. Our furniture is built from solid wood and is heavy. We also crate the furniture in wood to protect it from damage during transit, so please be prepared to open the crate during inspection.

Please note: Because of increased freight costs, there will be an additional surcharge of $150.00 per order for third party freight shipped to New York City. When ordering online, your shipping total will not reflect this additional fee. We will reach out to you directly when your online order has been processed. Please don't hesitate to message us with any questions.

Because every piece of James+James furniture is custom built and/or finished to order and therefore is not re-sellable by James+James, our return policy only covers product defects and inaccurate orders. In the rare event that your order is built inaccurately or has a defect, James+James will replace the furniture and correct the issue.

In the rare event that your furniture is damaged in transit, James+James will correct the issue at no additional charge as long as the damage is properly noted upon delivery.

What Size Dining Table Do I Need?
Figuring out what size table is right for your space can be confusing and frustrating. Luckily, with a few simple tips, it doesn’t have to be. We build thousands of tables each year and here’s what you need to know to be a table sizing pro:

Tip 1: Seating Capacity

Figuring our how many people you want to seat at your table is a great place to start. Chair widths vary, but as a general rule:

For Rectangular Tables:
6’ tables seat 6
8’ tables seat 8
10’ tables seat 10
12’ tables seat 12

For Round Tables:
48” tables seat 4
54” tables seat 5-6
60” tables seat 6-7

For Square Tables:
46” tables seat 4
55” tables seat 4-8
60“ tables seat 8
66” tables seat 8

Tip 2: Painters Tape
Use painters tape to draw a table on the floor. This will really help you visualize the new table in your space. Then simply take a tape measure and measure what you drew on the ground with painter’s tape. If you can maximize your space with a 6.75’ table, perfect. That’s what we’ll build.

Tip 3: Spacing Rules
If you know the room’s dimensions, but don’t have access to the space, here’s a spacing tip that will really help with the math.

You want at least 3 feet of clearance around all four sides your table. This is the minimum that will allow for a chair to be pushed back when someone stands up or for someone to be able to slide behind a chair that’s pulled up to the table when not in use.

Other characteristics of handcrafted, solid wood furniture include open knots, visible brush strokes, micro-imperfections and textural variations in the durable, hand brushed finishes, unique distress marks, exposed screws, wood filler marks, joint lines, and distinctive nicks, splits, cracks, and other imperfections. We allow up to approx. 1" of variation across all measurements due to the custom nature of the handcrafted furniture we build. Those who do not appreciate variations and imperfections should not purchase handcrafted furniture.

Solid wood may expand and contract due to changes in temperature and humidity. This means that the gaps between the boards of a traditional table top may get wider over time and need to be cleaned.

This natural movement enhances the one of a kind beauty of solid wood, handcrafted furniture. It does not affect structural integrity and is not considered defective. For customers that prefer to never have gaps between their table top boards, we recommend choosing our jointed top option, which eliminates cracks and spaces between the boards in the table tops. Jointed tops expand and contract as a whole. You will still see the beautiful and natural open knots on jointed table tops. We do not offer machine manufactured perfection - no two pieces are exactly alike since James+James furniture is crafted to your order specifications.
