Learn how to make your own eco-friendly yarn out of upcycled plastic shopping bags and how to crochet this yarn into a small storage basket. Once you know the technique, you can make other "plochet" items, such as market bags, purses, or rugs.

At most, only about 10% of plastic bags are recycled in this country. So turn your plastic bag stash into something useful. There are also instructions in the pattern for how to make a round dish scrubber and pom pom decorations.

Difficulty: Beginner, but not absolute beginner. You will need to know how to make single crochet stitches and be familiar with crocheting into a ring.

Cost: Very low! You will use plastic bags you already have and one J/10 6 mm crochet hook.
