What materials do you use?

The clay used for all hand-built and wheel-thrown works is stoneware produced by Armadillo Clay & Supply located in Austin Texas. The clay used for cast pieces is Amaco #1 Porcelain Slip. All ceramic works are high temperature fired (Cone 5).

Can I use your cups and bowls the drink or eat from?

Yes. All glazes used are lead-free. The glazes used on functional pieces, which may be used for food or beverages, are commercially manufactured food-safe glazes.

Why does it take so long for a custom order?

Ceramic works go through many stages during the creation process. After making, all works must completely dry before the first firing; this can take as long as a week. Then there are the firing and glazing stages. All works are fired at least twice which requires 24 hours each time. Glazing sometimes requires several steps or layers, each of which must dry prior to moving on to the next.
