The poem in the painting is in Japanese.
Daruma is the Japanese doll modeled after Bodhidharma (the founder of the Zen Buddhism.)
It symbolizes good luck, longevity, perseverance, winning, the realization of goal / enlightenment.

The inspiration was :
The color of energy, the contrast of UPs and DOWNs of life, strength and kindness, tears and laughter.
The spirit of Dharma- alongside with the Japanese proverb phase "Seven Times Down, Eight Times Up" - Landing on Your Feet in an Upside-down World - a call to never give up.

Dear Rie, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your beautiful artwork. It took me several days to decide which one to purchase, but I am thrilled with my final choice. I was overjoyed when I received the print in the mail. It now has a prominent place in my bedroom and both my daughter and I enjoy admiring it before we go to sleep and when we wake up.
