For a long time one of my goals has been to practice an urban sketching technique with water colors. I was finally able to do that on a trip to New York City.

***48th and 8th Avenue is the view from the lobby of our hotel room. I love how NYC has a lot of seating next to large picture windows which makes it easy to sit, work and not feel awkward that you are by yourself. There was a lot scaffolding on the sidewalk but I used my artistic license to edit it out of the way. It was chilly and I love drawing people bundled up in outerwear.

***The Social is a building across the street from our hotel and I could see it from the lobby. The vibrant red caught my interest. ***Fancy Facade is the Duke–Semans Mansion, the landmark mansion located at 1009 Fifth Avenue at East 82nd Street in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. ***I love the look of fire escapes and became a little obsessed with drawing them while in NYC. This was a view that I had when I sat on the sidewalk in front of a building to draw.
