Stinging Nettle is an age-old herb that holds a special place in the hearts of herbalists and wild food enthusiasts. While it's well-known for its slight skin-irritating hairs when touched, this seemingly unwelcoming trait is outshone by the plant's rich benefits. Once cooked or dried, the stinging hairs are neutralized, revealing a nutritious and versatile green that can be used in teas, soups, and stews. Beyond its culinary uses, Stinging Nettle has been utilized for its medicinal properties for centuries, especially in herbal teas. Its tall green stems and serrated leaves also offer beauty to garden landscapes, and its blooms attract various beneficial insects.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:
Start seeds inside about four to six weeks prior to the last frost free date for your area. Plant one to three seeds in peat pots filled with potting soil. Lightly cover them with ¼ inch of soil. Keep the growing stinging nettle seeds moist. Germination should occur by about 14 days at optimal sowing temp (65-70°). Transplant the growing nettle greens into a prepared garden bed, spaced at least 12 inches apart. You may also direct sow nettle greens in the garden. Choose a spot that has rich, moist soil a little ways from any other herbs. Seed in the spring in rows that are an inch apart and keep the area moist.

Many factors influence the performance of seed such as temperature, light, water, weather, storage and the skill of the grower that are out of the control of Southern Seeds. In other words, a grower can cause high-germination rate, viable seed to fail. Nevertheless, we unconditionally guarantee all our seed for 30 days from the tracking verified delivery date and will accept returns on seeds for any reason for 30 days. We do not accept returns on seeds after 30 days from the tracking verified delivery date for any reason. Shipping fees on shipped packages will not be refunded.

We pride ourselves on getting orders out on the same day. The last pickup for our post office is 5pm ET and as long as the order is put in before noon, we will usually have your seeds out the door that day. Orders after noon will ship the next morning. Orders after close of business on Friday as well as orders on Saturday and Sunday will ship on Monday morning. There are times though like during peak growing seasons in the spring that our processing time may be longer. Please check our processing time on the listing for our current times.

All seeds will come in a small plastic baggy labeled with the seed name, number of seeds and a brief description of the growing instructions. That baggy is put into cardstock which adds to the protection. We have found that the number of seeds damaged in transit significantly reduced with this method versus wrapping it in foam paper and just putting it into an envelope like many sellers do.
