Set of two...Very unusually framed vintage bird prints / reproductions of works by the renowned nature artist John Gould (1804 - 1881). One pair is the Trogon Mexicanus, and the other trio the Trogon Behmi, both types of birds look very colorful, tropical, and the detail is artistically impressive. These appear older and the prints look to have been professionally framed (some numeration and markings lead me to believe this) but the frame selection is suspect, the prints are on cardboard so someone really wanted to frame these to match a certain decor. The frames, glass, and prints are separated on one (needs to be re-glued or secured before hanging) and the other could easily be separated as well.

The frames, as mentioned are unique, with lots of aging on them, however, they are still serving their purpose. Wired on the back, they are ready to hang (after a quick fix), in your own island or tropical paradise. The definitely have a mid-century look to them and would be wonderful in the right surroundings. They are wood, spindle-like, with square knob corners and are artsy all on their own. Their lighter color could be changed if you wanted to invest the time. They are imperfect for sure, but what a look!

John Gould, as mentioned, was an ornithologist and researcher, famous for his bird drawings, right up there with Audubon. A lot of his works centered around birds of Great Britain and later of Australia. Regardless of his fine work, these prints are aged and lovely, the frames are aged and unique and perfect for that one of a kind look. Splitting spindles cannot be an easy thing to do, and then adding a rabbet to hold the print and glass in place...another form of art.

Each piece is just over 10" x 13" corner to corner measures, the display size is about 8-1/4" x 11-3/8"
