This can be easily determined by either measuring a well fitting bracelet from end to end or wrapping a string around your wrist and measuring that to a comfortable fit. The size you list will be the actual bracelet size. Don't know what size is needed? While a custom size is typically preferred, industry standard for an average adult is 8".

It is not recommended to regularly soak your braided horse hair jewelry as this can weaken the sealant, mildew the braid, or even tarnish the hardware. If your keepsakes are braided and they get wet please allow them to dry in a natural manner. Bracelets should be closed. Flat items should lay flat. If your braid snags and a hair strand is broken please use nail clippers to carefully snip the broken hair close to the braid. Metal may tarnish. This is a natural occurrence due to exposure to sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in the air. To avoid tarnish please store in a jewelry box or pouch. If possible jewelry should not come in contact with harsh chemicals.

Will you send back extra horse hair?

Absolutely! All usable horse hair will be returned to you with your finished order unless you specify otherwise.

Do I need to wash the hair before mailing?

No, you do not need to wash the horse hair. Cleaning, disinfecting, and even whitening (if applicable) are included in the price.

What if I don't have horse hair to send in?

No problem! I have an abundance of hair to use for your order. Please note that my horse hair is 100% cruelty free. It is not sourced from slaughter-houses, but instead from customers who have extra and choose to allow it to remain here for orders such as this.

How much hair will my keepsake require?

The amount of hair required varies greatly by style. For this reason, I have added a summary to each listing in the description section. Please visit the page for the design you are interested in for a closer estimate. On average most bracelets require a bundle of hair about as wide as a pencil and approximately 14" long at minimum.

I sent in chestnut or sorrel hair and it looks black. Is this mine?

Chestnut and sorrel hair often looks reddish on the outside, where it has been exposed to the sun. On the underneath however, are the longest strands, which are most frequently required for braided designs. These are not exposed to the sun often and are frequently a dark brown or black tone with only minimal red highlights, if any. Please rest assured that all horse hair samples are color coded and handled one at a time to ensure that they are not mixed up.

The silver toned wings measure approximately 31x26mm (25mm is approximately 1") and includes a sterling silver and glass sphere charm sealed with your horse's hair inside A sterling silver chain is included. This design requires approximately 15 strands of hair at least 6" long.

Warranty Information:
All items designed by Equine Keepsakes are covered under a warranty. I will repair damaged hardware, replace lost charms, etc. Repairs are free. Replacement of lost charms or hardware may be subjected to a small fee.

What to expect if you order:

Each product listing contains an estimate of how much hair will be needed for the design you have chosen. You can select to send in horse hair or, if you prefer, you may select to have your keepsakes created with my horse hair in your choice color(s). If you send in your own horse hair, any unused hair will be returned with your finished order.

***Please note that you will be invoiced for a $25 fee if your horse hair arrives to me before your order is placed as this causes confusion and delays in the order process.

You do not need to wash the hair before mailing. I will do that once it arrives. I ask that you avoid braiding it if possible. If it is already braided please do not worry, I can still work with it! The only thing you need to do it contain the cut end of the hair so that it stays together during transit. (A rubber band is preferred over anything else, if possible.) If the hair is too short to band I simply ask that you place it in a zipper sealed baggy inside the bubble mailer.

Please mail in a bubble mailer with tracking via USPS (United States Postal Service). The tracking will allow you to verify when the package arrives. Additionally, please ensure that the name listed at checkout is the name listed on the return address section of the package, as this will ensure that I know the horse hair is yours upon arrival.

(Please do NOT ship wet horse hair as it will mildew in transit and likely be permanently ruined.)
