Condition: as pictured, aging, no restoration required. Dimensions: 26.6 x 20.9 cm. The painting is baring signature "Yun Gee", in the lower right. The painting has a reference number marked on verso, which in our opinion belong to the previous collections this artwork was part of. The artwork is offered as after the artist, sold as is.

Offering a fine mixed media painting of a colorful landscape with houses and figures. The painting shows American Modernist and Cubist influence. The colors are combined in nicely toned hues. The artwork appears to have a gallery stamp on verso, or it may be the name of the previous collection and a collection reference number next to it.

Yun Gee was a Chinese American modernist artist who introduced Modernist trends in Western art to more traditional Chinese painting. He hoped to create an advanced 20th-century style for China that would gain the respect of international art circles. He lived and painted in San Francisco, Paris, and New York City, and was considered as one of the most daring avant-garde painters during his time. While studying in San Francisco, Oldfield's Cézanne-inspired paintings influenced Gee's artistic style, as did Gottardo Piazzoni. As a result, from the onset of his artistic career Gee's work explored the tension and contrast between warm and cool colors. Additionally, Gee was also influenced by Eastern and Western poetry, and frequently wrote original compositions to accompany his paintings. Critics note how his poems combine Chinese style word-play and Taoist themes with the western avant-garde poetic themes of his time, such as the work of Gertrude Stein.
