Each hide begins as a natural byproduct of the beef industry — ethically sourced, never farmed for leather alone.
Once selected for its thickness and minimal scarring, the hide enters our careful, multi-step process:

Salting: To preserve the hide naturally before tanning.

Cleaning & Soaking: Each hide is washed with purified, recycled water to remove residue.

Tanning: The most important stage — where the raw hide becomes soft, flexible leather.

We use traditional chrome tanning, done slowly to prevent stiffness, shedding, or odor.

Greasing (Fatliquoring): Our artisans apply natural animal fat, not synthetic oils.

This step keeps the hide naturally moisturized and supple for years.

Each hide is air-dried naturally, allowing the leather to breathe for several days and gently release the intensity from the tanning process. This patient step lets the hide settle into its natural softness and flexibility.

Most cowhides on the market are dried in industrial ovens for speed — only a few hours at high heat. While faster, that process can make the leather stiff, brittle, or uneven in texture.

By contrast, Rodeo’s traditional air-drying method uses natural airflow and mild sunlight to preserve the hide’s natural oils, elasticity, and authentic aroma. The result is a supple, silky cowhide that drapes beautifully and lasts for years without cracking or curling.
