Highlights
This handmade functional mug is incredibly comfortable to hold and have a sip. Its square shape gives every hand a place to fit perfectly. It holds approximately 15 ounces and goes in both the dishwasher and the microwave. Its rich glazes have wonderful depth and variation, due to the layering of three glazes which also contribute to the individuality of each mug. I throw each mug on a wheel, and immediately alter it to achieve the square shape. The next day I add the handle--big enough for all four fingers--and then the mug rests and dries for a few days. When I have made enough work to fill my very large kiln, I fire everything to about 1800 degrees. Then the glazing begins. Each mug receives a base glaze and then two additional glazes to interact and produce the lighter blue on each of these mugs. Because this mug is handmade and the glazes are layered, there may small be variations in size and shape, and color--darker, lighter or brighter blue.
