Fine French Russian Abstract and Cubism original composition painting, Signed

Condition: as pictured, aging, no restoration required. Dimensions: 28.7 x 19.9 cm. The painting is baring signature " Sonia Delaunay ", in the lower right. The painting has a reference number marked on verso, which in our opinion belong to the previous collections this artwork was part of. The artwork is offered as after the artist, sold as is.

Offering a remarkably vibrant Abstract gouache painting of various colorful figurative shapes. The painting shows early Fauvist influence combined with Cubist forms. The colors are vibrant and well contrasted. We believe this painting is from the French avant-garde movement, which experimented with various modernist styles of the era.

In the present work, the pictures surface is an energy field of overlapping and intersecting angular planes in a constant state of potential release of energy. At the same time the elements are held in a balanced and proportioned whole as if linking the compositions of the classical past to the future. Color is used as the iconic focus.
Sonia Delaunay’s innovative explorations of color and form began with a quilt she made for her son in 1911 that would spur a breakthrough in the history of abstraction. She had moved from Moscow to Paris at age 20, where she first encountered Post-Impressionism and Fauvism, inspiring her to push further toward non-objective art. Along with her husband, Robert Delaunay, she developed a bright blend of Cubism and Futurism that would be dubbed Orphism by critic Guillaume Apollinaire in 1910—though Delaunay preferred the term “Simultaneous Contrasts”.
