Children need to move! Keep things fun and interesting with movement break cards. Print them out, cut them up, and begin using today.

Pull them out prior to seated activities to improve sustained attention. Give movement breaks a try before homework, meals, and special lessons. When you notice attention start to wander or children getting extra fidgety, offer an additional break.

There are a variety of cards to choose from. Some cards allow for extended non-structured play (bike ride, rollerblade, swingset, etc), while others serve best as brief exercises when you're in more of a time crunch (15 jumping jacks, 10 push-ups, crab walk around a room, etc.). Choose the cards you like based on your needs and the environment at that time.

You can also encourage children to pick a certain number of kids and create a sequence (ex. first we're going to do 15 chair push-ups, then we're going to cross crawl to the kitchen, and finally we'll end with 10 frog jumps).

Works great 4 my first thru third graders! Put line on floor w painters tape. Put tape X at one end. Kids do brain breaks using line if it involves movement across floor. X is spot for stationary exercises. They find open floor spot and use Montessori rug for yoga exercises.
