• Ironwood trees grow in the Sonoran Desert and the art of carving ironwood originated by the Seri Indians.
• Harvesting living ironwood trees is prohibited. The artisans gather ironwood from naturally fallen trees. Green wood is not suitable or used for carving.
• Ironwood requires hours of carving, hand sanding, polishing, and artistic eye to capture the beautiful grain inherent to ironwood. The result is that no two pieces are identical.
• There is a limited supply of true ironwood and a limited number of carvers. It is possible that each carving may appreciate in value.
