Peace of My Heart Prayer Shawl

The tradition of prayers shawls has been embraced by many faiths and community organizations worldwide as a tangible means to connect with those in need of solace. Unlike the ancient traditions of Tallit in the Jewish faith, there are no specifics which must be adhered to in the creation of a Christian prayer shawl, but there are elements in this shawl that are particularly meaningful to me. For the structure I choose shadow weave as the name reminded me of the darkness that sometimes seems to block out the light in our lives. The central pattern, reminiscent of cross wood grain, brings to mind life's seasons of growth and change, and the narrow border on all sides of the shawl reminds me that I am "hemmed in on all sides" by the height, and breadth, and depth of God's love.

Whether you weave this shawl for yourself or for someone you love I pray you will experience the solace and hope and peace found in prayer and that you will find joy in the making of something special and beautiful.
