This instant download PDF file sewing pattern is for a structured, zipped clutch with a beautiful sumptuous bow on the front. The bow is not "stuck on", instead it's integrated into the body of the front panel. The fabric is pieced together and gathers up to form the bow, like a perfectly wrapped gift!

You can choose to make the standard length of bow as the black clutch pictured, or follow instructions to elongate it as the red clutch.

There are simplified step-by-step instructions include loads of clear photos & diagrams. All measurements are quoted in both metric & inches.

The finished clutch will measure approx. 29cm (11 1/2") long x 14 cm (51/2") wide x 5cm (1 3/4") depth at the base. -a stylish, practical shape.

The clutch is fully lined with a useful internal pocket & uses my easy method for inserting a professional-looking sunken/ hidden zip.

This design would suit wide variety of fabrics, including light-weight fabrics as the fabric is re-inforced with fusible interfacing. Duchess satin, cotton, denim, silks, brocade, lurex etc etc.


YOU WILL NEED:

*Fabric for the clutch exterior: If buying off the roll you will need at least a 60 cm (24“) length.

*Fabric for lining: If buying off the roll you will need a 20cm (8”) length.

*Mid-weight fusible woven interfacing: To add body to entire back & front panels, lining, pocket & zip facings. Highly recommended: Pellon ShapeFlex Woven Fusible #SF-101 or Vilene Woven fusible G700. These usually are available in 2 widths. If 90cm (35 1/2”) wide you will need 40cm(16”) length; if 51cm(20”) wide, you will need 70cm(27 1/2”)length.

*Non-Fusible Stabilizer: this clutch requires a firm non-fusible Heavy-weight interfacing & this will give a semi-structured, boxy feel. Use “Vilene Extra-Heavy Sew-in S-80” (this comes in 90cm/35” width, you need 20cm/8” length) or “Pellon Peltex 70 Sew-in Ultra firm” (this comes in 51cm/20” width -you need 30cm/12“ length).

*Zip: Minimum 30cm/12” length (longer is fine as the excess can be trimmed). The zip can be nylon or metal. Try to find one with 6mm (3/16th“) width teeth as this will feel more like a handbag type of zip.

*Zip Puller: Something to tie or attach to the cursor on your zip, eg. ribbon or leather strip.

*Hemming Tape: 1.5 -2.5cm (5/8” -1”) width fusible tape -you will need about 50cm or 1 yard.

tools required: domestic sewing machine, scissors, scalpel, iron, tailors chalk or pencil, pins.
