This copy of Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus, by Mrs. Shelley (as the title page of this book refers to her,) is a small (6 inches by 4.5 inches) book with a stunning art nouveau-style cover depicting water lily leaves arising from water, framed by reed grass. Just look at the photos to see the beautifully-kept cover and the lovely design on the spine.
This 294 page book was published by Donohue, Henneberry and Co. of Chicago. It was published in 1895. This is a scarce and highly collectible version of this classic literary work, and would be an amazing addition to any antiquarian book collection!
BOOK CONDITION
The cloth cover design is bright and unworn, as is the spine. The cover shows wear arlong the spine, a bit of bumping at the tips, and is frayed along the lower portion of the front edge. The interior has an inscription and what I'm guessing was a bookseller's or owner's date stamp. The title page is loosely attached and the copyright page is missing. However, based upon my research, books from this publisher with this cover were issued in 1895. The interior pages have some age-related tanning and darkening around the edges -- they are all securely attached. I could not find any closed tears or other marks in the book. This is a beautifully-kept antique book.
