This a listing for 10 grams of dried Spotted Coral Root rhizomes. 10 grams is about a fistful of dried root, by volume. Please note that Coral Root has a naturally unpleasant scent, both fresh and dried. This magnificent little orchid grows sparsely throughout deep, shaded, moist areas of our forest. Coral Root is extremely unique; it has no leaves and completely lacks chlorophyl. Instead it uses it's segmented, finger-like creeping roots to encapsulate root systems of the plants around it (usually young beargrass, glacier lilies, and arnica) and leeches nutrients from them, and is also aided by networks of mycelium that transfer nutrition to the Coral Root. This species of Coral Root is not endangered or threatened on a state or global level, though some other species of Coral Root are (as are many orchids in general). It relies on a pristine growing environment with healthy fungal activity and a dynamic ecosystem to grow. As such, Coral Root is rarely commercially available; which is why I am thrilled to be able to offer this wonderful herb! These roots are not chopped or cut in any way, they are broken naturally into their segmented parts.

To sustainably harvest Coral Root, I make certain to re-plant all of the budding rhizomes segments that are capable of growing a new flowering stalks. Mining out the roots is a tedious task, and washing them to perfection even more so. A few ounces of Coral Root rhizomes require hours of harvesting and cleaning. The roots, painstakingly excavated and cleaned, then dry to about 1/10th of their original weight. All of this makes my price on Coralroot higher than I'd like to offer it at, but that's the nature of the beast with this rare and unusual herb.
