Presentung for sale a delightful Victorian WHITBY JET brooch/pin dating from the 1890s
Feauturing a central Jet Gemstone and framed by decorative and ornate carvings. This piece has been hand carved and the quality and workmanship is superb. It presents with the original victorian fastening.
It is in very good condition, there are no cracks or damage and it presents with the original clasp which works perfectly
I have cleaned and oiled this lovely brooch bring about a beautiful lustre to the central stone and carvings.
Genuine Whitby Jet is quite scarce. It can no longer be mined in Whitby Yorkshire England. Any further mining would jeopardize the towns structures. Whitby jet was prized by Victorians because it is extremely lightweight, carves well and is the most beautiful black colour. Perfect medium for the large and chunky styles of jewellery that were popular at the time.
This is a very original piece of jewellery It is also a very desirable item for any enthusiastic collector.
