Birds of Paradise (Strelitzia Reginae)

Strelitzia, also known as the bird of paradise plant, is a tropical plant that is native to South Africa. It is a popular choice for gardens and landscapes due to its attractive appearance and ability to thrive in warm climates. Here are some general instructions for growing strelitzia plants:

Choose a planting location that receives full sun and has well-draining soil. Strelitzia plants prefer a soil that is rich in organic matter and slightly acidic, with a pH between 6.5 and 7.5.

Prepare the soil by loosening it with a garden fork and mixing in some compost or well-rotted manure. This will help the soil drain well and provide the nutrients the strelitzia plant needs to thrive.

Plant the strelitzia in a hole that is twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Gently remove the plant from its container and place it in the hole, making sure to spread the roots out evenly.

Fill in the hole with soil, tamping it down gently to remove any air pockets. Water the plant well, providing enough moisture to thoroughly soak the root ball.

Water the strelitzia plant regularly, providing enough moisture to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Strelitzia plants are drought-tolerant and can survive extended periods without water, but they will grow best with regular watering.

Fertilize the strelitzia plant once a month during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer, following the manufacturer's instructions for the appropriate amount to use.

1 1/2 perlite and 1 part soil is what I use. Plant above soil and then sprinkle soil ontop. Water. Cover. Indirect light and temps of 70-75 perfect for sprouting. Humidity of 50-70% for most of the tropical plants

Eucalyptus : Warm temperatures 70-80 degrees. Medium humidity. 1/2 perlite 1/2 soil mix in a tray. Plant seeds above the soil and then lightly sprinkle soil on top. Mist instead of watering so that the seeds do not get disturbed and moved around.

Palms / Strelitizia : Best to soak for 5 hours. 1/2 perlite 1/2 soil mix works. Higher temperatures of 70-80%. Temperatures that fall below can cause them to take much longer to sprout. Most seeds can be planted above soil and then pressed into it with the seed still visible.
