This work was done after a trip to Morocco. It is an abstract painting that combines the colours of Morocco with a little bit of the decorative flavour felt in Morocco. The turquoise blue is reminiscent of a lot of the doors there, the stencil work reminds me a little of the beautiful mosaic floors and walls, the gold recalls accents of the lanterns and decorative trims in many places. This is a mixed media piece. I used cold wax and oil on cradled wood. This simply means that wax was added to the oil paint creating a creamy texture that gets applied in many layers that can be scraped back and worked over with stencil work, powdered pastel, oil sticks etc.
