One of the few flowering plants that prefers part sun to full shade, Columbine is a delicate flower that produces multiple flowers in various colors. Another flower with a rare color to find in nature, a beautiful blue, the state flower of Colorado, a US Native.

These require either late fall/early winter(45 degrees or less) sowing for spring emergence or cold-moist stratification which involves simply placing them in a moist paper towel in a sealed ziploc bag and stored in your refrigerator for one month before planting. You can also plant them in small peat pots so all you have to do is remove them and place them in a sunny window or a partly sunny spot outdoors.

These are perennials and will return every spring and also self seed very easily so you only need plant them once!
