Are all silver items Sterling Silver ?

Yes, if it is stated that it is silver in the listing it is 925 Sterling Silver. This is 92.5 Pure silver with 7.5 percent base metals to give the silver strength as pure silver is very soft.

Gold plating is a fine layer of real gold on a base metal, usually brass or stainless steel. The layer can be 0.25 to 2.5 microns thick. The thicker the layer, the more robust the jewellery. A lot of our jewellery is PVD, (please see other FAQ's for an explanation) this makes the item is far more durable than traditional gold plating.

What is PVD Gold Plating?

PVD; Physical Vapour Deposition is a new technique of coating metal, when gold is applied to metal in this way it is a lot more durable and has a greater resistance to wear than traditional gold plating.

What is Gold Vermeil?

The term vermeil can only be used when the gold coating is placed over Sterling silver, the gold can be different thicknesses and karats, e.g 9K, 14K etc. When the gold wears off it will reveal the silver beneath, this is product has high hypoallergenic properties.

Gold fill is placed on metal by bonding it rather than being dipped. It is much thicker than gold plate and have at least 5% gold and is Hallmarked GF. Gold-filled jewellery is a lot more durable than traditional gold plate, with care it will last the wearer a lifetime.

What if I change my mind and want to return an item?

I will happily accept returns on the understanding that the item is in an 'As new' condition. The customer will have to cover the cost of return postage, I advise sending the item tracked for security, but it is not a condition. The original posting cost incurred by Emily joseph will be deducted from the refund of returned unwanted orders.

Gold Hammered Dangles in Gold Fill*. The discs are approx. 9mm. wide with a 14 mm. drop. I make them to order in my studio, but I can usually make them on the same day.

*Gold fill is much thicker than gold plate, it is the closest you will find to pure gold. With care, it should last the wearer a lifetime.

Sterling silver:
This is 92.5% pure silver, (as silver is quite soft 7.5 of the metal is made up of other base elements that make it stronger). Sterling silver has a hallmark stamp 925. It needs little looking after and a quick polish will have it back to its usual shiny self.

Gold Plate:
Gold plated jewellery can range from 0.25 to 2.5 microns in thickness. It is great for those of us that want to make a statement while staying in budget, but it does need a lot more care as the coating is quite thin. Gold plated items are hallmarked with GP.

Gold Fill:
Gold fill is a process where gold is bonded onto the surface of base metal, but many more times, making the coating up to 100 times thicker than gold plate. This method means that your jewellery can stand everyday wear and can do all of the above, it is hallmarked GF, with care it will look and act like gold for a lifetime, but the downside is that is is a lot more expensive, usually at least 3-4 times as expensive as a gold plated piece.
