Thank you for looking at my Etsy listing! Arizona Cactus Growers is a local nursery in Surprise, Arizona growing high quality locally grown cactus and succulents. My passion is growing indigenous plants, especially Joshua Trees that are being devastated by climate change.

Sale includes (1) fresh new growth opuntia pad (no roots) similar to the photos. Smaller pad sizes range from 3"- 5" tall and wide, or large 8"- 10 " heart-shaped pads are available for a limited time. Hardy to USDA Zone 9b (25-30 degrees) and extremely easy to grow! See rooting tips below.

This is a one-of-a-kind monstrose prickly pear not available anywhere. We named this 'Blue Coral' and think it's a cross between (opuntia macrocentra X opuntia robusta X opuntia santa-rita tubac). All three of these species grow at the nursery. We discovered this by accident, growing between greenhouses a few years ago.

New generation pads are typically dark purple in color but transitions to a bluish-purple as they age. New pads are produced in the spring and fall months with a display of large canary yellow flowers at that time. Typically the older generation pads create that monstrose wave as shown in the photos, and some will retain the wave, some will straighten out. Also, older generation pads do get more substantial over time, but overall growth stays under 4' tall with a moderate to fast growth rate once established. Rooting tips...

Once your pad arrives, allow the cut end to harden like a scab before you plant it. Time varies based on your location but don't worry. They can survive months without being planted. Plant the cut end 1"-2" into fast-draining soil and water once. Keep your soil dry until new growth appears or roots develop. Use the pencil eraser to push the pad to determine resistance. Stiff resistance = roots are present.

Pro Tips- More sun = more flowers/pads. Once established, more water = more growth. Saturated wet soils will rot the roots.
