What a cute picture Cathy got of her granddaughter in the main photo! She says: "I just wanted to thank you for this WONDERFUL WONDERFUL mermaid pattern, and ALL of your help with directions and supplies for the head piece! We love our pictures of the new girl in our lives in this ensemble! The only thing I would do differently is make it a little longer. We couldn't pull it up high enough to keep her from looking 'topless', but she still looks so innocent and 'swimmingly' Pisces we love every picture we snapped! The pattern is absolutely fabulous! This is my favorite thing I've made so far I think."
People are so kind!! Cathy's granddaughter was about a month old, so if you are going to use yours with a little girl that age, keep in mind what she says about making it a little longer.
I was present to help my friend Anna photograph her darling newborn daughter, and it was hilarious to see her flip her fin like a fish. She was just as snug as could be, and really seemed to enjoy herself. The mermaid in the second treasure chest is my own sweet granddaughter at about 2 months and 15 pounds.
You can also use this prop with a toddler if she sits in a tub and the fin is hanging over the edge, not actually on her. There's a good picture of that in the Ravelry listing. I ran out of room here!
This "scales" stitch pattern is just perfect, and I can't emphasize enough how easy this stitch is to create. All you will need is a skein of Caron Simply Soft yarn ($3.00 or so at WalMart!) and your needles.
I've written it two ways, so you can choose to knit in the round, or back and forth with a seam up the back.
Permission is granted to sell the mermaid cocoons you knit.
Not suitable for an absolute beginner, unless you have a personal coach in the extended family. Work on the basics with my pattern number 101 or 110 first. Email support is included! I can usually answer your questions in just a few hours.
I can also send you the supplies and super easy instructions to create this charming seaweed headband. Pictures and pricing upon request. Check my shop listings, as I sometimes offer this mermaid set as a finished item, too.
