Caring for Sterling Silver

Tarnish on your silver develops as a chemical reaction, mostly through the air (though direct contact with substances that contain sulfur will also cause it). How long tarnish has developed determines how easy it is to remove. When it is mild, a simple clean cloth will freshen it up. Polishing is required for older tarnish. While silver dips will seem like an easy and time saving process, they remove the tarnish by chemical action. This process can leave the surface looking "lifeless" and dull. It can also attack the surface of the silver of the piece. Gently rubbing a tarnished piece of jewelry with a polishing cloth should be all the care your sterling silver jewelry should need.

Caring for Argentium Sterling Silver

Argentium sterling silver will not tarnish as much as sterling silver. It won't need polishing very often, if at all. You can clean these pieces in warm water with mild soap solution, then pat it dry gently with a soft cloth. NOTE: It is best to store Argentium individually in a soft cloth or plastic bag or jewelry box. It will minimize the chance of your jewelry from tarnishing and prevent scratching. You should not allow you Argentium Sterling Silver jewelry to touch against regular sterling silver during storage. For some reason standard sterling will cause Argentium to tarnish badly.
