Thank you for looking at my Etsy listing! Arizona Cactus Growers is a nursery in Surprise, Arizona growing high-quality locally grown cacti and succulents. I am passionate about growing indigenous plants, especially Joshua Trees, devastated by climate change.
I am selling Mexican Fence Post starters that are grown from seeds (not cuttings). These starters range from 4"-5" tall and come with a well-established root system as shown. Please see the actual photos. Ships bare root and fast! Cold hardy up to 25 degrees or USDA Zone 9b.
Are you curious about why seedling-grown Fence Post is superior to cutting-grown ones? The answer lies in their ability to produce new arms once they reach a height of 12"-20". Take a look at the last photo of my 24-month-old 5-gallon container. Many of my customers prefer seedling-grown cacti because of their aesthetic appeal. After all, who wouldn't want a well-proportioned candelabra-like cactus displayed in a container on their patio or inside their home?
A point worth mentioning is that almost all Fence Post Cactus available for sale are grown from cuttings. Due to the rarity of seeds, this is a perfectly acceptable practice. Over time as the single stem fence post grows in length, it will eventually develop arms with age. Most commercial growers will combine multiple single-stem cuttings into a contianer to create the illusion of a larger plant.
The Mexican Fence Post Cactus is a must-have in any landscape with mild to hot temperatures or in your collection of container plants. It is a remarkable, low-maintenance plant that is beloved by cacti enthusiasts. Its white vertical margins and less aggressive appearance make it a preferred choice for first-time growers. If it grows too large in your container or growing area, simply cut it back in the spring to promote fresh growth. If your area gets chillier than 30 degrees, use a styrofoam cup to protect the top. Easy peasy
