For those that are new to bar soap, here are a few tips to help your Gilded Bee bar last as long as it can... 1. Keep your bar out of direct water streams and standing water. This will discourage premature wear, and while the ph of our bar soap doesn't allow for easy mold growth, please take care to make sure your soap dish doesn't accumulate excess water, allowing your bar to properly dry. A dry bar between uses is a happy bar. 2. Storage: if you plan on keeping your bar until you use up your current soap or until you decide to give it away as a gift, keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This will preserve scent.

Are any of your soaps made with a pre-made base?

Absolutely not. We do not use melt & pour bases, and we do not use pre-made mixtures of any kind. All of our soaps are made from scratch with a timeless cold-process method, and all of our essential oil blends are mixed in house. The best soap is made in this fashion, and this method enforces our motto: perfection through simplicity.

Are your oils and butters ethically sourced?

Yes. We wouldn't dream of doing otherwise. All of our oils and butters are bought from vendors that ethically source their products, and our honey and beeswax both come from local beekeepers that use the utmost care in handling their bees.

Short answer, no. Since vegans tend to abstain from not just animal products but also products produced by animal labor, and since our bars contain either beeswax, honey, or both, our bars cannot be considered vegan in the strictest sense. However, our stores of beeswax and honey are locally sourced from beekeepers that go the extra mile to keep their bees happy and unharmed during the harvesting process. So, if animal cruelty/harm is your concern, then our bars are perfect for you.

What is that white powder on my soap and can it hurt me?

From time to time, a thin, white powder will show up on cold process bars of handmade soap; this isn't surprising, as results from handmade products can vary widely... What you are seeing is called soda ash, and it is completely harmless. Soda ash forms when unreacted lye (Sodium Hydroxide that didn't interact with fatty acid chains found in fats and oils) comes into contact with carbon dioxide in the air. It most often shows up as the soap cools after pouring, and can be easily removed with cold water or even an old nylon stocking! Some people hate the look, while others like the handmade, rustic look that it can offer. The choice is yours: wash it off, or keep it there!

It doesn't take much to activate our soap: wet the bar, turn it over a few times in one hand, lather up, wash your skin, rinse off. Simple, perfect.

I'm giving 5 stars even though I can't give a good review. Not because it's a bad product, but because I am in topical steroid withdrawal so bad that not even this soap will help me. Maybe one day I'll clear up and can use it. I'm sure it truly is a wonderful product just not for me at this time.
