How are the maps made?

We make them ourselves. A print-on-demand shop sends your file off to a machine somewhere and nobody looks at it before it ships. We print in our own workshop in Europe, and you see a proof before it goes to press. The ink is a pigment set, not dye. Dye is what goes grey first in a room that gets afternoon sun. Ours is an Epson UltraChrome HDX, ten colours. The geography is drawn with a cartographer rather than traced off stock art. You notice that standing close to it. Clean coastlines, small place names you can still read.

What is actually on the map?

Enough that people walk up to it and start hunting for their own places. Country capitals, major cities, the biggest rivers and lakes, and the landforms — mountains, deserts, plains, uplands. US maps add all fifty states, the interstates, national parks and national forests. Three of our world maps mark UNESCO World Heritage sites, and they say so in the title. Size decides how much of it you can read. At the small end you're reading countries and capitals. If you want to find the town you stayed in, go bigger. Between two sizes, take the larger one. It's the one thing that's hard to undo later.

What is the difference between the four techniques?

Same map in all four. What changes is what sits behind it, and that's what decides whether it holds a pin on its own. Canvas — 310g poly-cotton canvas over foam board, wrapped on a 3 cm (1.2 in) wood frame. Holds pins. Ready to hang. Framed — 190g fine-art watercolour paper on foam board, framed individually in wood. Holds pins. The most finished of the four, and the heaviest. Mounted poster — the same 190g paper on a warp-resistant foam board. Holds pins. No frame, so it's lighter on the wall and on the price. Poster — 192g enhanced matte paper, rolled in a tube. Paper on its own. The pins come with it, but it needs framing or mounting first or they've got nothing to grip. All four come with 100 push pins.

Do I have to pay an additional customs or TAX when I receive the package?

US, UK and Canada orders: no. We send to all three DDP, so duties and import fees are already in the price at checkout and nothing is collected on delivery — including when the map is a gift going to someone else's address. Anywhere else it depends on where you are. We ship from our workshop in Europe, and your country may charge import tax, duty, or a carrier handling fee when the parcel arrives. Those are set by your customs authority and the carrier, not by us, and they vary with the item and its value. Message us before you order if you're not sure what applies where you live.

Can I add a banner or a quote?

Yes. Names and a date, a quote, or both, printed across the map. Tell us the wording. Your two pin colours as well, and the frame colour if you picked a framed size. You'll see a proof before anything goes to print, so nothing is final until you say it is.

Will I see the map before it is printed?

Yes. Within 24 to 48 hours of ordering you get a digital proof. Wording, spelling, layout. It doesn't print until you tell us it's right. So keep half an eye on your messages after you order. We hold the job until we hear back, and that's the one thing that can push your delivery date out.

What arrives in the box?

Canvas and framed maps arrive ready to hang. Mounted posters ship flat, so there's nothing to flatten out first. Rolled posters come in a tube. All of them come with the 100 pins.

Put a dozen pins through Europe and you can still read Europe.

The map is drawn with a cartographer rather than pulled off a stock file, so the small places are named. The pins are 5 by 11 mm — a head you can read from the sofa, on a pin small enough that a dozen of them through Europe still leaves Europe readable.

We make them ourselves, in our own workshop in Europe. We have been printing since 2010.

THE MAP
· Countries, capitals and major cities, with lakes, rivers, seas and mountains
· A current political map, using the standard place names

WHAT'S IN THE BOX
· The map, ready to hang

· 100 pins, in the colours you pick
· Your banner, if you chose one

SIZES
· 32 x 24 | 80 x 60
· 40 x 30 | 100 x 75
· 53 x 40 | 135 x 100
Each size comes as wrapped canvas or framed canvas.

WRAPPED OR FRAMED
Wrapped canvas is the canvas stretched over its wooden stretchers, with a recyclable foam board behind it — that board is what takes the pin and holds it, and it is why this is a pin board rather than a poster you cannot pin. Framed canvas is that same canvas set inside a wooden frame with a shadow gap around it. The frame is built and fitted by hand, which is where the difference in price goes.

PINS
Two fields, two colours. Pick one in each and you get fifty of each — one colour for where you have been, the other for where you are going. Pick a colour in only one field and all 100 pins come in that colour.

MAKE IT YOURS
Choose a banner and tell us what it should say — a name, a date, a line you like. Or leave the banner off. You pick it at checkout, and we set it before printing.

YOUR PROOF
Add a banner and we email you a picture of it set on your map before anything is printed. Nothing goes to the printer until you reply. That adds about a day. Without a banner your order goes straight into production.

WHICH SIZE
Measure the wall, then aim for about two thirds of it. Over a sofa or a bed the map should sit inside the width of the furniture; going wider reads as a mistake. A wall of its own carries the largest size easily.
Every size takes all 100 pins, so choose for the wall.

IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG
If a map ever fails on our craftsmanship, we replace it. No charge, no argument.

MADE AND SENT
We make it to order, so it is 1 to 3 working days with us before it leaves. Shipping is free to the US, the EU and the rest of Europe; Canada is $12, and so is anywhere else. It arrives 3 to 5 business days after it leaves us.

DELIVERY AND CUSTOMS
Shipping to the US, the UK or Canada, there is nothing to pay on delivery. We send all three DDP, which means duties and import fees are already in the price at checkout. Anywhere else it depends on where you are — your country may charge import tax, duty, or a carrier handling fee when the parcel arrives.
