Bear with me. St. Alice is actually the patron saint of the blind and paralyzed, but Catholics who cannot partake of the Host will be buoyed by her story. Alice entered the convent at age seven and was a good and humble girl. Unfortunately, she contracted leprosy, which left her with tremendous suffering as well as blind and paralyzed.

Her greatest comfort was the Holy Eucharist, but she was not allowed to drink from the Cup for fear of contagion. But Jesus appeared to her and told it that it was just fine for her to receive just one species.
