Finally - I found a shop offering custom BASE colors so I don't have to rely on paint. And they come POINTEH (pointy! sharp! but not needle-sharp). Guess what? Plastic is easy to file down. You can nub these for your stingy security people at the con/show no problem, or enjoy them being sharp for personal purposes. The tip bit is pretty solid with fill, which makes filing less risky. I am messing around with mine to see if I can put LED lights in them for a rave, so the light shows relative fill density in the tip for anyone who wants to know. Thanks man!
