Stone: Aura Quartz
Square boxed 'diamond' wrapped in copper.
Pendant size: 6cm long. 4.5cm wide
Necklace: adjustable length coated black faux leather cord.
Three pieces of quartz make up this necklace, each with a different aura color added to the top of it. White, a blueish purple hue, and pink. Each of these three stones sits nestled into a square pendant, all of it grown together with copper. A black patina was added to the copper.
~~About Aura Quartz~~
Aura Quartz is a natural piece of quartz that has been treated for a colored coating. It's created during a process called "atomic vapor deposition". Basically, metal is heated until some of the atoms bond to the gemstone. Quartz can handle this easily, being a very hard stone. Different metals provide different colored and shine level coatings.
Some have said that copper could be used as an anti-inflammatory. Through time it was used to amplifies the properties of things it's paired with while creating a balance between your emotions and mind.
~~About the electroforming process~~
Electroforming is a process where electricity is used to "grow" metal onto an organic object. I use a mixture of copper sulfate, sulphuric acid, and brightener in a bath to pull copper off of wire (particle by particle) and deposit it onto the object. This is done using conductive paint and electricity. Yes, these are chemicals, and yes the process is a bit hazardous until the pendant is neutralized. The entire process from start to finish for just one piece can take up to a week! While you can control a lot of elements, each piece is 100% unique with this process. Combining nature with alchemy!
~~Caring for your electroformed jewelry~~
Each piece is sealed for protection. They are still semi delicate and should be treated with care. Do not wear your jewelry to shower or swim, rings while doing dishes, while exercising, or overnight to bed, etc. Treat with care as you would any fine jewelry. Raw gemstones can break if dropped or banged on things.
Copper will slowly oxidize over time. To prevent it as long as possible - avoid applying oils, lotions, or perfumes to the area you wear your jewelry. This metal can turn your skin green slightly once the protective coating starts to wear off. This is not an allergic reaction, it's normal. You can easily clean the marks off your skin with soap and water. Clear nail polish can be applied as a 'quick fix' to areas exposed to skin if you would rather this not happen (again, each piece is sealed, but will wear off over time).
