Vintage from the 1900s
Materials: French Metis Linen

Exquisite unworn French Metis linen monogrammed with the name "Marie" chemise night dress , Circa 1900. This would make a beautiful floaty dress.
Deep round neckline, drawstring neck which has never been pulled and is exactly as it was when completed. It has lovely scalloped edging, whitework point embroidery & broderie anglaise neckline & sleeves. Both sides at hems have an insert which is French seamed. It is an amazing piece which has been all hand sewn. There are the baste (tacking) stitches still left in on the inside of the garment. Also the blue transfer pen has bled in places but also makes this nightdress a completely unique item of vintage French clothing.

This is an antique which is perfectly preserved, I cannot see any visible marks present but obviously it is an old piece that is not a perfect shop bought modern item.

Bought from a dressmaker's family in Southern France.
