1/72 scale US M48A5 main battle tank (night vision projector, M48A2 type commander's cupola), Cold War, NATO, 3D printed, wargame, modelling

The United States M48 main battle tank was developed during the Korean War and served with the US Army from 1953 until the early 90s. The last major US upgrade of the M48 tank series was the M48A5. The upgrade featured the mounting of the M68 105mm gun carried in the M116 mount and the all-metric measurement M16 fire control system. The hull was upgraded by applying the M60A1 RISE Hull PIP Update Kit and incorporated as many of the components as possible. Some of these included the retrofit of the AVDS-1790-2C RISE diesel engine incorporating TLAC engine panels coupled to with a CD-850-6 cross-drive transmission, a 300-gallon fuel capacity and the T142 track assembly, M13A1 NBC protection system for the crew and the replacement of the .30 caliber M37 coaxial machine gun with the 7.62mm NATO M219/T175 machine gun. The variant depicted retains the M48A2 commander's cupola installed and an NV projector above the main gun.


This model is 3D printed and meant to be an economical alternative to wargamers wanting to expand their armies, it can also be used to build dioramas.

This model is made in five parts, turret, commander's cupola, hull and tracks. The model will be sent with support material still attached for better safety during transport, cutting and cleaning will be needed before assembly. The model is printed using PLA and gluing is needed, if adding accessories to it superglue type glue will be required or other epoxy glue.

The pictures are from one sample model, the models are similar in grade of detail and after print cleaning. The model is dispatched in a postal cardboard box with protective material inside for better safety.
