All orders ship as soon as possible. Most small orders ship within 1-3 days; larger and custom orders will take longer to make and generally ship within 3 weeks. For custom work, please allow a minimum of 3 weeks production time plus shipping. Please send us a message if you need your items by a certain date and we can let you know if we can accommodate it or not. You will receive tracking once your order is on its way. Most orders ship with USPS; larger orders may ship with UPS or FedEx. All orders containing matches ship by ground. International orders are shipped USPS first class international and should arrive in 14-28 business days (sometimes less, sometimes more).

Custom and personalized orders

We are happy to work with you on a custom order for a special day, a heartfelt gift, or something for yourself! Just send us a message on our website, or by email to jessica (at) studioportmanteau dot com, to start a conversation about what you need. For custom work, please allow at least 3 weeks production time plus shipping.

If you would like to send your order as a gift, simply mark the purchase as a gift and include your gift message at checkout. The price will be left off of the packaging slip. Gift wrap for your order is available for a small fee (select this option at checkout).

So where did the shop name come from? A portmanteau is an old French word for a box or suitcase that opens into two equal parts (much like our vintage-inspired matchboxes, which were our first product back in 2013). The shop logo is derived from an antique lock on an old leather suitcase. And just how do you pronounce portmanteau? It rhymes with studio (port-man-toe). :)

In the spirit of reducing studio waste, this listing is for a batch of two dozen (24) slightly imperfect foil stamped matchboxes from our shop (with matches inside). These are hand selected from our misprinted matchboxes to ensure they are presentable and displayable, but there is some slight flaw that doesn't pass our usual standards of perfection. The most common errors are the design being off center, or slight gaps in the foil, or a small wrinkle in the box. These boxes contain the same matches inside as the standard size matchboxes for sale in our shop.

Great for collecting, giving, having on the table at dinners, picnics, cigar bars, weddings, coffee table conversation, and stargazing party favors! Place one next to your bath tub or favorite reading spot for candle-lit reading... Scatter some on a table to decorate for a party... Give one as a gift to a fellow candle lover...

Matchbox size is 2 3/16" x 1 3/8" x 3/8" and contains about (16) 2" long white-tipped safety matches. A standard striker strip is located on the right hand side. As always, well-designed and well-crafted.

Note: International orders are shipped without matches in the boxes. All US orders containing matches are shipped by ground.
