Mary Black was a London based designer and couturier who started her own business during the 1930's. In 1941 she opened a New York salon on 47th Street where she catered to her exclusive clients and also sold her clothing to fine specialty shops such as Bergdorf Goodman and I Magnin & Co Importers. In the early 1950's her dresses sold between $80 and $400.00 which in todays money is around $900.00 to $4000.00 !


S i z e : small but busty - up to 37" to 38" bust, 15 1/2" shoulder to shoulder edge, 27" waist, 37" hips, 16" shoulder to waist, 34" waist to hem

* this is an original and unique design from the early 1940's

* it is an off white / cream rayon lace with a dusty rose-peach rayon silk under lining to the bodice

* the entire gown is lined in cream rayon silk crepe with a dusty rose pink border trim for the bust, arm openings and straps, front to back (low cut back as well)

* the under lining illusion bodice portion is low cut and has the shape of a low cut corset, rounded over the bust and lined in silk netting

* the under lining has straps and arm holes, so it is not strapless and takes pressure off the shoulders of the lace when wearing

* the gown has a front metal zipper and hook and eye, making me think it could be a fancy negligee or dressing gown but of course it is pretty enough and nice enough to wear as a regular gown ! It is pretty bombshell-eque!

* as you can see, the skirt is fuller at the hem and more slim-fitting through the waist and hips

C o n d i t i o n : very good, there is a little seam stress separation of lace from the seam at one shoulder and front neckline, and a few speck spots on the skirt, one hole in lace about size of half dime next to zipper placket (pictured) .
