When Hailee Wilburn-Ervin experienced her first pregnancy in 2017, she was too afraid of reading horror stories online to educate herself about birth. This resulted in her not being able to make informed decisions, which then led to a traumatic birth experience. She decided to write a book that could be read to small children while also introducing medically accurate information to parents. Birth ABCs is written in a gentle, educational tone and encourages families to learn more about birth together.
While pregnant and looking for books to buy for her nursery, Hailee noticed that most children’s books about birth were written from the perspective of white, straight families. "Birth ABCs" is composed in a way that makes it valuable and inclusive to many--whether they are straight or LGBT+; identify as cisgender, nonbinary, or transgender; and whether they are biological or adoptive parents. Birth affects people from all walks of life, and everyone deserves correct information.
