'The bridge keeper's house' is a risograph print of one of our favorite buildings in Utrecht. Not far from our workplace, at the Vaartserijnbrug, stands this tiny old bridge keeper's house from 1931. It is no longer needed for the bridge keeper because the bridge no longer opens and closes. It was squatted as a living space for a short time in the 1990s, long before tiny houses were fashionable. Since then there have been various uses, at the moment a tiny barbershop is housed there. May the building be used for a long time coming!
About the series Utrecht - portraits of a city:
We from VrijFormaat have been living and working in Utrecht for a long time now.
Time for a series of architectural portraits from our 'stadsie' (Utrechts for city).
Not just the touristy hot spots, but views we see while cycling from A to B, things we love or actually love to hate, things that interest us because of the graphic lines. Beautiful details, weird contrasts, impressive ugliness, it can all be an inspiration.
About riso printing:
Risography is a technique where you use a duplicating machine to print colors separately, layer by layer.
The result is somewhat reminiscent of screen printing.
Risography uses semi-transparent inks based on vegetable oil (soy or rice).
Due to the technology, each print is slightly different, which makes each print unique.
Designed and printed by us in our studio in Utrecht.
Ink colors: blue, red and green.
Paper: 160 grams Biotop, A4 sized (21 x 29.7 cm)
the print is sent without a frame.
