Here is a large, bold beaded collar. I liked to use antique or vintage pieces as the focus of my beading. This started out with a large antique black glass dress embellishment from the late 1800's or early 1900's. Then I used antique steel cut buttons. I'm a button collector belonging to the National Button Society as well as the Kansas State Button Society. Each of these organizations support the preservation of antique, collectible and historical buttons. I strive to use these little works of art in my pieces without damaging them. The shanks of the steel cut buttons were merely bent slightly with the buttons themselves sewn on.

This beading technique is called bead embroidery. All beads are individually sewn on and not glued as some would think. It's a long, tedious process. After all the beading is done on a stable material it is then glued onto Ultra Suede and then finished by beading the two surfaces together.

The black glass center piece measures 2-3/4 x 1-1/2 inches. The largest of the steel cut buttons measures 1-1/4 inches in diameter with the smallest at 3/8 inch. The colors are black, purple, and green. The clasp is sterling silver.

I have several of these that I wear myself. Although they look big and are, they are quite comfortable to wear.
