Highlights

McDonald's Restaurant, 1974 McMetrics aluminum ruler, made in the USA
12-inch aluminum ruler. In 1975, Congress passed the Metric Conversion Act, which declared metric as the preferred system of the United States, and the U.S. Metric Board was created to implement the conversion.
The biggest reasons the U.S. hasn't adopted the metric system are simply time and money. When the Industrial Revolution began in the country, expensive manufacturing plants became the main source of American jobs and consumer products. McDonald's was trying to help children learn the metric systems.
